KATHARINA VOTH

Mrs. Katharina Voth was born March 27, 1890 in Ladekopp, South Russia. Her childhood, youth and early married life were spent in the village of Steinfeld. Here she accepted the Lord and later, after her marriage in 1917 to Nicolai Herman Voth, both were here baptized and accepted into the Allianze Gemeinde (Alliance Mennonite Church)

In December, 1925 the family left Russia for Canada and settled in Hochfeld, Manitoba. They joined the Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church. Later, in 1932, after years of drought and great need, the family moved to Arnaud, Manitoba, where they experienced an easier life. In 1947 Mrs. Voth was predeceased by her husband and in the following year she left the farm and moved into Winnipeg, to Elmwood. During her widowhood she knew loneliness and isolation but in all this she grew in the knowledge and love of her Lord and his Word. It became her concern to pray more for others, to love more and let people know that she loved them. Her ministries included the family, the church and the lonely, among them of late many students and young people.

She enjoyed good health most of her life, even spending several weeks this spring visiting friends and relatives in the western provinces. Unexpectedly, yet gently, God called her from this earthly life on May 30, 1967.

She leaves to mourn her passing, Margaret and Anne Voth, Katie and John Janzen, Nick and Mary Voth, Henry and Kay Voth, all of Winnipeg; Herman and Katie Voth of Herbert, Sask., Mary Thiessen and Mary and Irwin Penner of Arnaud, Man., and Jake and Hedy Voth of Alexander, Man., Helen and Cornelius Pauls and Kathy and Rudy Pauls of Manitou, Man., and Alfred and Jeanie Voth of Ottawa; and many relatives and friends.

The funeral was in the Elmwood Church on June 3. During the service her son Herman spoke in English, on "The Grace of God in Mother's Life" (1 Cor. 15:10, 56) and Rev. I. W. Redekopp, in German, on Luke 10 :38-42. She has chosen the better part, the latter said, like Mary: Christian humility, openness for the spiritual over against the secular, a growing trust in the Lord, and "it shall not be taken from her." The congregation sang, "Auf Ewig bei dem Herrn" (Eternally with the Lord), and the ladies of the women's circle sang, "In dem Himmel ist's Wunderschon" (Heaven is a Wonderful Place). Two brethren, Dave Durksen and Frank Funk, sang two numbers, "Jesus will walk with Me" and "Ich werde kein Fremdling dort sein" (I Shall be no Stranger There). Upon her own request, Mrs. Voth was buried in the Arnaud cemetery.
