Services At Winkler For M. B. Leader
REV. H. S. VOTH WAS MEMBER OF FOREIGN MISSION, COLLEGE BOARDS
Winkler, Man. — The large Mennonite Brethren church here was well filled Saturday afternoon, Oct. 30, when the funeral service for Rev. H. S. Voth, leader of the congregation for twenty years, was held. The numerous floral tributes bore eloquent testimony to the deep affection accorded the deceased.
Rev. G. D. Pries, present leader of the congregation, officiated and read Isaiah 55:8-9 for his remarks. The German funeral address was given by Dr. A. H. Unruh, Winnipeg, and was based on II Timothy 4:7-8. The English address was given by Dr. P. D. Lange, Hillsboro, Kansas. He read Acts 13:26. Rev. R. C. Seibel, Enid, Okla., spoke a brief eulogy of the deceased. Rev. A. A. Dick, Mountain Lake, Minn., read the obituary in German and Rev. H. K. Wiens read the same in English.
Born in Bingham Lake, Minn., in 1878, Rev. Voth received his early education in both the public school and the Bible school of Mountain Lake, Minn., and later at McPherson college, Kansas. At the age of 17 years Rev. Voth was baptized on his faith and soon became known for his zealous desire to win others for Christ. After serving as a pastor in Dallas, Oregon and in Mountain Lake, Rev. Voth came to Manitoba in 1919 and made his home on a farm near Winkler. Since 1927 he had been a member of the Foreign Mission board of the church, often serving as chairman of the board. He also served on the board of directors of Tabor College.
In 1931 he followed his father-in-law, the late Rev. John Warkentin, as leader of the local M. B. congregation. He relinquished this position in 1950.
Rev. Voth suffered a heart attack in his home here Friday evening, Oct. 23, after visiting with his youngest brother, Abram.
He soon lapsed into unconsciousness and passed away quietly Sunday night, Oct. 25. Burial was made in the local cemetery.
Rev. Voth leaves to mourn his loss, his widow, the former Miss Susie Warkentin; three sons, Harry and John of Sacramento, Calif. and Reuben on the farm at home; and three daughters, Mrs. G. G. Enns, Winkler, Mrs. B. D. Klippenstein, Myrtle, and Mrs. Schneider, Sacramento, Calif.
