13-Yr.-Old Moundridge Youth Drowns in Lake

Moundridge, Kan. — An accident at a newly opened recreation center northeast of Burrton last Sunday afternoon claimed the life of Glen Howard Voth, 13, of Moundridge, who lost his life by drowning while wading in a lake.

Funeral services for the youth, youngest of 15 children of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Voth, will be held Thursday forenoon at th First Mennonite Church of Christian here, Rev. Ralph Weber in charge.

It was reported that Glen and his sister Juanita, 19, both non-swimmers, were wading at the edge of the lake when Juanita suddenly noticed her brother was missing. A search party was formed immediately, but the body was not found for about an hour. Efforts to revive the youth by mouth to mouth respiration and use of a resuscitator were of no avail.

The new recreation grounds opened several weeks ago by Pete Schrag of Moundridge, include separate lakes for swimming, fishing, and boating.

GLENN HOWARD VOTH

Glenn Howard Voth, son of John D. and Linda (Graber) Voth, was born at Moundridge, Kan. May 9, 1950, and passed away June 30, 1963, attaining the age of 13 years, one month and 21 days. He lived his entire life in the community of Moundridge.

His death resulted from drowning at the recreation grounds called Pete's Puddle, 12 miles southwest of Moundridge. After he was found, all efforts made to revive him failed. It is a joy to know that he is with the Lord.

He attended the First Mennonite Church of Christian with his parents, brothers and sisters, having much love for the Lord and the church. He was much interested in music, singing in the children's choir.

He first attended Spring Valley District School, and later the Moundridge Elementary School, passing the seventh grade last spring. At the end of his school year he received a Perfect Attendance Award for his seven years of public school. He took part in extra activities, especially enjoying chorus and band. He was a happy and obedient child, making friends easily.

He was the youngest of 15 children. He leaves to mourn his death, besides his father and mother, the following: Evelyn (Mrs. Walter Penner and husband) of Whitewater, Kan.; Alta (Mrs. Melvin Johnson and husband) of El Dorado, Kan.; Ruth (Mrs. Merle Kiser and husband) of Harrisonburg, Va.; Waneta and Lois of the home; Wilbur and wife Hazel of Ritzville, Wash.; Curtis and wife Sandra of Philadelphia, Pa.; James and wife Barbara of Telford, Pa.; Harry and wife Catherine of Downey, Calif.; and Karl, Myron, Larry, Stanley and Verne of the home. He also leaves five nephews and nieces, many relatives and a large circle of friends.
