22-MONTH-OLD BOY INSTANTLY KILLED UNDER TRACTOR WHEELS

Corn, Okla. — There was a large attendance at the M. B. church here Aug. 25 when funeral services were held for little John Carry Vogt., 22 month old son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Vogt.

The child was instantly killed Tuesday morning under the wheels of a tractor being backed out of the shed by his father. Only moments before, the father had placed him in a nearby Jeep, thinking he would remain there and be safe.

The final services were in charge of Rev. J. P. Kliewer, assisted by Rev. Henry Hege.

CORN OKLAHOMA

August 30. 1950

The thing that shocked the Corn neighborhood was that fatal accident to little Johnny Vogt, two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Vogt. Mr. Vogt was getting his tractor ready to go into the field. Little Johnny, being out with his daddy, was placed in a nearby jeep where he had entertained himself before and would be out of danger. Before backing the tractor out of the shed. Mr. Vogt took for granted that the child was still in the jeep playing, but to his great surprise and grief he noticed the child’s body lying crushed where one of the big wheels of the heavy tractor had gone over him. Death must have came[sic] instantly. But what grief and anguish must have overcome the father to carry that crushed body to the house and also for the mother to place the dead child into its bed.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10:30, August 25, the undertaker remarked. “Never have I seen such a great audience during a child's funeral service as this present one." It seems no one could comfort the grief stricken parents, but those who came nearest doing so are those parents who have had similar experiences. Many prayers went up to the God of all comfort when the sad news was first heard over the phone. This intercessory prayer should be kept up until the wounds are healed.
