ESTHER K. VOGT

Esther K. Vogt died at Beth Haven Nursing Home, Hannibal, Mo., on Jan. 3, 1988.

She was born March 25, 1905, to Isaac and Lizzie Kulp at Philadelphia, Pa. In 1907, she moved with her family to Cheraw, Colo., where she spent most of her childhood years.

She received her education at Cheraw and La Junta, Colo., and at Hesston (Kan.) College, from which she was graduated with a bachelor's degree. She married a classmate, Milton C. Vogt, on July 24, 1927.

That year, she and her husband sailed for India, where they spent 40 years working as Mennonite missionaries. They served at Ghatula and Balodgahan in Madhya Pradesh and at Kodarma and various locations in the Palamau District of Bihar. Following her husband's death, she returned to the U.S. and resided for 15 years years [sic] at her childhood home in Colorado.

She is survived by two sons, Merle Vogt of Wallingford, Pa., and Virgil Vogt of Evanston, Ill.; three daughters, Laverne (Mrs. Dean) Nafziger of Hopedale, Ill., Elva (Mrs. Ron) Miller of Molalla, Ore., and Myra (Mrs. Larry) Danielson of Morden, Man.; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Amos Kulp of Cheraw, Colo.; and two sisters, Elizabeth Kulp and Margaret Kulp, both of Cheraw. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968 and by a son, Bernard, in 1938.

Funeral services were held Jan. 6, 1988, at the Mennonite Church in Hopedale, Ill., with John Friesen and H. James Smith officiating. Interment was in the Mennonite Church cemetery near Hopedale.
