Linda E. van der Smissen, 76, died Dec. 12 at the Bethel Home for the Aged in Newton where she had lived since 1976. Services were held Dec. 16 in the Sister Frieda Chapel with Jerry Griffin and Ernst Harder co-officiating. She was born Linda Kliewer at Hammon, Okla., where she married Heinrich Roland van der Smissen in 1925. He survives at the Bethel Home. She was a retired executive housekeeper at the Nevada Children's Home and a member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church. Other survivors include a daughter, Hope (Mrs. John) Smook of Richmond, Va.; a brother, J. Milton Kliewer of Phillips, Tex.; two sisters, Martha (Mrs. Alfred G.) Linscheid of Newton and mrs. Ruth Linscheid of North newton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
