JACOB C. UNSICKER

Jacob Christian Unsicker was born at Whitterfield, Barvaria [sic Bavaria], Germany, May 20, 1873. He died of an asthmatic heart condition Oct. 29, 1953, at his home near Walters, Okla., aged 80 years, five months, nine days.

His parents died when he was very young and he was sent to America at the age of 13 to be with relatives and friends in Illinois, where he grew to manhood, residing mostly in Champaign county. He later settled near Pocahontas, Iowa where he married Christina Tucking. In 1907 he moved to Walters, Okla. which had since been his home.

To this union were born four sons and two daughters: Joe of Walters, Mary, Mrs. Theodore Nelson of Port Huemene [sic Port Hueneme], Calif., Paul of Port Huemene [sic Port Hueneme], Calif., John of Walters, Alice, Mrs. William Proctor of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Jacob Jr. at home. He is survived by his wife, all of the children, 15 grandchildren and one sister in Germany.

He was very active in community affairs and for the past 15 years was a member of the Pleasant View Mennonite church at Hydro, Okla. Funeral services were held in the chapel of the funeral home in Walters Nov. 1, in charge of Bishop Alva Swartzendruber. Text Job 14:14.
