— Friends here have received word of the recent death and burial of Tobias Unruh at Pawnee Rock. Mr. Unruh was a well-known citizen of that community, having lived there for many years. He had been ill for some time.

Tobias B. Unruh

Tobias B. Unruh was born Aporil 12, 1862, in Russia. He died October 10, 1938, at his home near Dundee, Kansas.

Mr. Unruh was the son of Benjamin D. and Nettie Unruh. He came to America with his parents from Astraga, Karlswalde, Russia, arriving in Newton, Kansas, November 24, 1874. l The family remained there four months and then moved to Pawnee Rock, Kansas, in the spring of 1875 settling east of Dundee, Kansas. Mr. Unruh first attended church in Karswalde [sic Karlswalde], Russia in 1873.

The first Sunday school he attended was in the latter part of July, 1877, Sunday School at that time being held from two to five o'clock in the afternoon. He has attended Sunday School and church since then as regularly as was permitted. On February 25, 1885, he became a member of the Bergthal Mennonite church. In his youth he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized by Elder John Ratzlaff.

When his health began to fail two years ago he attended the Pentecostal services at the Assembly of God church in Great Bend and in August, 1938, he joined that church. He enjoyed Sunday School and church, loved the prayer meetings and had read his Bible through four times.

On March 30, 1885, he was married to Eva Anna Jantz. To this union ten children were born, seven of whom are living. His wife died on September 6, 1926. Two grandchildren also preceded him in death.

Mr. Unruh became ill of asthma in April, 1938, and dropsy followed. He reached the age of76 years, five months and 28 days.

Surviving him are two daughters Anna and Edna of the home, and his sons Ira, Gilbert, and Albert also at home; Clarence Unruh of Pawnee Rock; a daughter Lydia E. Brueggemann of Scott City; also ten grandchildren, three brothers, J. B. and J. W. Unruh of Great Bend and A. J. Unruh of Haddam, Kansas, and one sister, Anna Rau of Trinidad, Colorado.

His funeral service was conducted from the Assembly of God church on October 13 with Rev. J. B. Schmidt of Pawnee Rock, Rev. Chas. Shell of Wichita and Rev. Chas. Peak of Great Bend participating. Burial was made in the Dundee Valley cemetery. — The Family.
