— Rudolph Unruh, 66, long-time resident of the Goessel community, died Sunday morning at the home in Goessel after a year's illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl church, with Rev. P. A. Wedel in charge. Mr. Unruh engaged in road maintenance work after retiring from the farm. He is survived by his widow, the former Lydia Schroeder; a daughter, Mrs. Alvin Boese of Lehigh, and two sons, Orville of Newton and Lowell of Hillsboro; one brother, Albert of North Newton; and five sisters, Mrs. J. C. Reimer, Mrs. Art Schroeder, Mrs. Gus Unruh and Mrs. Menno Schmidt of Newton, and Mrs. Paul Regier of Moundridge.

RUDOLPH UNRUH

Rudolph Unruh, son of John J. and Helena Voth Unruh, was born April 22, 1891, in Marion County, Kansas and departed this life early Sunday morning Feb. 16, 1958, at his home, reaching the age of 66 yers, nine months and 24 days.

He received his elementary schooling at the Heimbaugh District School and the Hillsboro Preparatory School.

He was baptized upon confession of his faith in Christ on May 15, 1910, by Elder Abram Ratzlaff and received into the fellowship of the Alexanderwohl Church. He remained a faithful member until his death.

On May 12, 1917, he was united in marriage to Lydia Schroeder by Rev. C. C. Wedel, and they shared joys and sorrows together for over 40 years. To this union were born one daughter and two sons. Father and mother made their home on a farm southeast of Goessel until 1929 when they moved to Goessel.

In 1942 they were privileged to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in the church, and on May 12, 1957, they observed their 40th anniversary with the family.

The welfare of his family and church were his main concern and he served the Lord in whatever way he could. He was a great friend of children and looked forward to the frequent visits of his grandchildren.

He continued to operate the farm actively until he became a road maintainer for the county, assisting with the farm work whenever his job would permit.

Although it probably started earlier, our father's illness became quite apparent in December 1956. It was later diagnosed as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. The disease became progressively worse, leaving him completely helpless the last six months of his life. With mother's loving care he was able to patiently bear the pain and helplessness he felt so keenly. He was peacefully released from all earthly afflictions during his sleep.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Lydia; one daughter and her husband, Audrey and Alvin Boese, Lehigh, Kansas; two sons and their wives, Orville and Elsie Unruh, Newton, Kansas, Lowell and Betty Unruh, Hillsboro, Kansas; ten grandchildren; one brother, Albert; five sisters, Mrs. Agnes Reimer, Mrs. Elsie Regier, Mrs. Mary Schroeder, Mrs. Selma Unruh, Mrs. Esther Schmidt; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted in the Alexanderwohl Church on Feb. 19, 1958, by Rev. P. A. Wedel, who was assisted by Rev. H. B. Schmidt. Interment was made in the Alexanderwohl Church Cemetery.
