— Funeral services were conducted at the West Zion church in Moundridge on Thursday, March 29, for John B. Unruh, who died Monday, March 26, after suffering a heart attack. A native of the Moundridge community, he farmed there for many years and also did carpenter work. Surviving are his wife, the former Anna Koehn; one daughter, Mrs. Vivan [sic Vivian] Unruh, and one granddaughter; three brothers and one sister.

JOHN B. UNRUH

John B. Unruh, son of Benjamin and Helen Wedel Unruh, was born on a farm near Moundridge, Kansas on June 2, 1887.

On Jan. 1, 1912, he was united in marriage to Anna Koehn by Rev. P. T. Wedel. Together they shared the common experiences of life for 44 years. One daughter, Zelma, was born to their marriage.

He lived as a farmer in the Moundridge community most of his life. He also did some carpenter work with his brothers. In 1946 he moved from the farm to Moundridge where he had lived for the past 10 years.

On May 19,1907, he was baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ by Rev. H. R. Voth in the Emmanuel Mennonite Church. He was a member of the Emmanuel Church until January 3, 1954, when he united with the West Zion Mennonite Church in Moundridge.

On Palm Sunday, March 25, he attended the morning and evening services of the church. On Monday, however, he unexpectedly became ill. Shortly after noon he suffered an acute coronary thrombosis. He experienced severe pain only for a short while until he was relieved by death at 3:30 p.m. He reached the age of 68 years, nine months and 24 days.

He is remembered as one who possessed a quiet and patient disposition. As a husband and father he was loving and kind. His granddaughter, Phyliss [sic Phyllis], was always a source of great delight and joy to him.

He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife; his daughter Zelma and her husband, Vivan [sic Vivian] Unruh; his granddaughter, Phyliss [sic Phyllis]; three brothers, David and wife of Moundridge, Peter and wife of Moundridge, and Herman and wife of Pratt, Kansas; one sister, Lena and husband, Frank Rudiger of Galva, Kansas; and a host of other relatives and friends. One sister, Mary (Mrs. Tobe Decker) preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted in the West Zion Mennonite Church on Thursday, March 29. Rev. Harris Waltner and Rev. Garman Wedel officiated.
