DANIEL H. UNRUH

Daniel H. Unruh, son of Henry and Anna Jantz Unruh, was born March 20, 1886, in McPherson county, Kans. and passed away at 1:40 a.m. August 1, 1953 at the Bethesda hospital, Goessel, Kansas at the age of 67 years, five months and 10 days. The cause of his death was a cerebral hemorrhage.

Upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ as his Saviour he was baptized on June 19, 1910, by Elder William Ewert and received into the fellowship of the Friedenstal Mennonite church. Here he remained a faithful and active member until his death.

He received his elementary training in the Elm Springs and Bell Top schools.

On Oct. 16, 1910, he was united in marriage with Lizzie Jantz. They were privileged to share life’s joys and sorrows for almost 43 years. This union was blessed with three children, one son, Virgil, having preceded him in death at the age of five years.

His vocation was farming. In 1915 the family moved to Greensburg and in 1917 they came back to Marion county, settling on his home place. In 1929 we purchased the place on which we now live. Father’s life was not an easy one. He endured many hardships but he was always cheerful and carried a smile on his face, never becoming discouraged. He was always willing to help others and the demands of a busy farm life did not crowd out his interest in the church and community. He expressed his interest in serving the church in various ways such as being janitor for many years and serving on the relief committee. His place in the Sunday morning worship was seldom vacant.

Father suffered a stroke a year ago in July which affected his speech and since then he could never talk very plainly. Through all of his pain and suffering he was always cheerful and never complained. His condition slowly grew worse and on July 29 he was taken by ambulance to the Bethesda hospital at Goessel. Here the doctor and nurses and human hands did all they could for him and many prayers were sent to the throne of grace for his recovery, yet our Heavenly Father in His infinite wisdom had ordained otherwise. After having suffered a cerebral hemorrhage he was released from the cares of this life in the early morning hours on August 1, 1953, and was ushered into the presence of his Maker where he can exchange his cross for a crown.

Looking forward to a heavenly reunion are his loving wife, Lizzie; the children, Raymond, his wife Ellen and their daughter Connie of Newton, Kansas, Lenora, Mrs. Ben Goentzel, and her husband and their children, Kenneth, Charles, and Bobby; five brothers, and three sisters, four sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law, and a large circle of relatives and friends. His parents, one son and three brothers preceded him in death.

He has overcome and thanks be to God, his suffering is ended. His is now to enjoy through all eternity peace and rest. Every remembrance of him will be cherished. We sorrow not as those who have no hope for we have the blessed assurance of meeting again in that bright and happy land where pain and sorrow will be no more. — The Family.
