M. B. Church Leader Called Away in Death

DR. A. H. UNRUH WAS WIDELY KNOWN PREACHER AND BIBLE TEACHER

Clearbrook, B. C. — A large audience gathered in the Mennonite Educational Institute auditorium here Jan. 20 for the funeral services of Dr. A. H. Unruh, 82, well known preacher, Bible teacher and writer of the Mennonite Brethren Church who died in a Chilliwack hospital on Jan. 15.

Dr. Unruh was stricken Jan. 6 as he began to speak at the Clearbrook M. B. Church. A memorial service was held Sunday, Jan. 22, at the Elmwood M. B. Church in Winnipeg where he held his membership before moving to British Columbia.

Born in the Krimea, South Russia, Dr. Unruh was educated there and also taught in Russia before coming to Canada in 1924. In 1925 he helped found the Winkler, Man. Bible School and later served as first president of the M. B. Bible College in Winnipeg.

He received the TH. B. degree from Tabor College and the D. D. degree from Bethel College, and was active in the M. B. Conference, serving one term as chairman. He engaged in Bible conference work in the U. S. and Canada, and in 1954 completed a history of the Mennonite Brethren Church.
