HENRY UNGER

Henry Unger was born on May 24, 1909 in Waldheim, Molotschna colony in southern Russia, the son of John and Susanna Unger. He had a happy childhood, and attended high school in Gnadenfeld. He accepted the Lord as his Savior in 1922 during evangelistic meetings led by D. M. Hofer. The Ungers moved to Canada in 1925 and Henry helped his parents during the first hard years. Attendance at the Coaldale (Alta.) and the Winkler (Man.) Bible schools enriched his life; he studied hard and loved to sing.

In 1935 he married Alice Rempel. The Lord blessed them with six sons, one of whom died in infancy. Mr. Unger served the Lord as a Bible school teacher in Gem, Alta., and Sardis, B.C. for a number of years. He loved his work as a Sunday school superintendent and minister. He taught German language on Saturdays for about 25 years.

In 1967 the Ungers moved to Chilliwack and joined the Broadway Mennonite Brethren Church. They appreciated the love and understanding they received. Mr. Unger began ailing in 1965; he slowly weakened, and went to be with his Lord on March 15, 1977.

He will be missed by his beloved wife, Alice; his sons, Verne, Hank, Ted, Wally, and Ernie and their families; eight grandchildren; and many friends and relatives.
