Conducts Funeral for Family of 12

FATHER ONLY SURVIVOR OF OXFORD, PENN. FAMILY WHICH ATTENDED MENNONITE MISSION CHURCH

Oxford, Penn. — Members of the Lincoln University Mennonite Chapel were among 200 persons attending funeral services for 12 members of the John L. Twyman family, victims of this community's most tragic fire.

Rev. J. Lloyd Kreider, pastor of the Mennonite mission congregation here which the Negro family attended, was in charge of the service at the Cauffman Funeral Home. He was assisted by Rev. Willis Tabor of the Second Presbyterian church. Burial was made in a double grave at Calvary Cemetery.

The father, John Twyman, was away from the home at the time of the tragedy and was the only survivor. A flash fire, apparently originating from a coal stove, swept through the small, tarpaper covered house was the family slept. Some died in their beds and others were huddled in a corner of the building, which had only one window and a metal, sliding door.

Dead were Mrs. Kathryn Twyman,35; her daughter Eleanor and the daughter's two little children; and eight other Twyman children ranging in age from 16 months to 18.
