BLUFFTON STUDENT DIES, FIANCE INJURED IN TURNPIKE ACCIDENT
Ephrata, Pa. — A fatal one-car crash on the Pennsylvania Turnpike ended the marriage plans of Paul S. Schantz, Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Paul S. Schantz, Sr. of rural Ephrata and a senior at Bluffton College (Ohio).
The young man's fiance, Jennifer Twitchell, 22, of Ashland, Ohio, died soon after the crash and he suffered a concussion and a fractured leg. They were en route to his parents' home here prior to their marriage June 5 at Ashland and his graduation from Bluffton on June 7. Miss Twitchell had been a student at the college.
The car driven by young Schantz apparently left the pavement during a blinding rainstorm, went out of control and struck the turnpike's medial rail. The accident took place near the Gettysburg inter-change.
