PAUL M. TSCHETTER

Paul M. Tschetter, son of Paul and Mary Hofer Tschetter, was born on Dec. 14,1884, in Hutchinson County, South Dakota.

On Dec.4, 1904, he was joined in holy matrimony with Anna Mendel and settled on a farm northeast of Bridgewater. here they lived until 1953 when they retired and moved to Bridgewater. To this union nine children were born. Two children and his wife preceded him in death.

In early manhood he realized his lost condition, sought the Lord and found Him as his personal Savior. He never doubted his salvation and was always ready to witness for his Lord. Upon the confession of his faith he was baptized on May 22, 1921, by Rev. J. M. Tschetter and became a member of the Salem K. M. B. church, of which he remained a faithful member until his death. He served as a Sunday school teacher for many years.

He was a great lover of nature and flowers. This revealed itself in the planting and care of beautiful flowers around their home. His children remember him as a loving father who enjoyed devotions with his family whenever an occasion permitted. His favorite songs were “Yes, My Name is Written There,” and “Jesus Savior Pilot Me.”

On June 16, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Gross.

He was blessed with good health until the last two years of his life. On Nov. 20, 1958, the pain in his chest grew steadily worse. He realized death was near. He was calm and had no fear, and said there was nothing between him and his Lord, for he was sure his name was written there. On Nov. 26 at 8:30 a. m. he passed away to be with his Lord and Savior. He attained the age of 73 years, 11 months and 12 days.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Mary, and seven children: Edmund of Alexandria; Mrs. Herman R. Fluth (Elizabeth) of Emery; Joe A. of Bridgewater; Jake P. of Sioux Falls; Mrs. Harry Bleekee (Rose) of Emery; Paul A. of Bridgewater; and Mrs. Harry Hanssen (Ruth) of Alexandria. There are also three sons-in-law, four daughters-in-law, 25 grandchildren, one brother, Jacob B. Tschetter of Huron, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe H. Hofer of Bridgewater and Mrs. Paul J. Hofer of Huron.
