Freak Accident Claims Life of Park Caretaker in Ohio

Kidron, Ohio. — A freak accident during a wind storm recently claimed the life of Noah D. Troyer, 68, retired farmer and caretaker of the Foundation Nook State Park between Apple Creek and Mt. Eaton.

Mr. Troyer had been at the park and was crossing US-250 to his home when winds picked up a 20-foot piece of airplane wing from a nearby metal salvage pile and threw it against him.

The Kidron emergency unit took him to Wooster Community Hospital, and after examination he was taken to Akron City Hospital. There surgery was performed to amputate one leg, but he died the following day, Dec. 18. He had suffered multiple fractures.

He was a member of the Bethany Conservative Mennonite Church at Holmesville, where the funeral was conducted on Dec. 21.
