Farm, Home Accidents Cause One Death and Numerous Injuries

CHILDREN NARROWLY ESCAPE DEATH IN MINNESOTA, MANITOBA

Accidents on the farm and in the home have again claimed at least one life and caused numerous injuries in Mennonite communities within recent days.

Tragedy came to the Eli A. Troyer home near Orrville, Ohio when seven-month-old Emery Troyer became wedged between the springs and side of his crib and suffocated while his mother was helping with evening chores.

At the Karl Franz farm near Mt. Lake, Minn., Mr. Franz' 9-year-old nephew Jeffrey Franz of Eau Claire, Wis. was climbing a tree when a branch brushed a power line. He fell 18 feet to the ground but escaped with severe burns to the ear and one ankle.

At Winkler, Man., 14-year-old Cathy Friesen was reported improved from second and third degree burns sustained when she used gasoline to start a fire in an outdoor barbecue.

A pony and a slow-moving car collided at Berlin, Ohio, sending the pony rider, Linda Miller, to the hospital. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Miller. Near Middlefield, Ohio, Abe W. Miller was pitching grain bundles into the separator when his fork caught in the belt and the handle punctured his abdomen, resulting in critical injuries.

Also critically injured in a farm accident was Israel Peachy of Belleville, Pa., who was knocked down from the barn loft when struck by a pulley as he helped with hay making.
