Peter Frank Toews

Peter Frank Toews of Winnipeg passed away Feb. 20. He was born Oct. 1, 1918 to Frank and Katherina Toews in Slavgorod, Siberia. The family immigrated to Arnaud, Man. in 1926, then moved to Portage la Prairie, Man. where he grew up. At 16 his mother died. His father married Justina Peters. He accepted the Lord through the witness of his brother Frank, was baptized and joined the MB Church in Newton Siding, Man. In 1938 the family moved to a farm near Morden, Man. A few years later he took over the farm. In 1947 he married Nettie Andres. In 1947 they moved to the Newton Siding area. In 1951 they moved to Winnipeg, where he got work in grain research with the federal government Dept. of Agriculture, working for over 26 years until his retirement. During his life he faithfully studied God's Word and spent much time in prayer. He was a witness to his faith from his early Christian years to his recent hospitalization, and was not ashamed of sharing the gospel with strangers. He had a love for young people and would talk to them about their faith. He taught intermediate Sunday school for many years. He also served at Union Gospel Mission. He enjoyed his long service as deacon, making regular home and hospital visits, including visits to polio patients at King George Hospital. Last summer he was diagnosed as having Lou Gehrig's disease, and in the fall suffered a heart attack. Predeceased by 2 brothers, he is mourned by his wife; sons Don and Albert; 4 grandchildren; 1 brother and 1 sister. The funeral was Feb . 23 in Portage Ave. MB Church, Winnipeg, with Albert Baerg and Abe Neufeld ministering.
