JACOB A. TOEWS

Jacob A. Toews, 83, of. Winnipeg went to be with the Lord on January 26, 1968. The funeral took place January 30 in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. Wm. Schmidt and Rev. J. B. Wiens ministering.

Mr. Toews was born November 13, 1884 in Fuerstenau, South Russia. As a youth he spent a number of years working for a storekeeper. At 21 years he was drafted into the forestry service where he spent four years. Early in life he accepted Christ as personal Saviour and in 1905 he was baptized in Rueckenau by Elder Peter Regehr. From his 19th year he proclaimed the gospel to the Russian people.

In 1910 he was married to Agatha Konrad with whom he was privileged to share over 54 years of life together. God blessed them with five children. In 1924 the family moved to Canada, received first by a Pennsylvania Dutch Mennonite family of Ontario. Later they moved to Manitoba, to live on a farm, and after a few years to Winnipeg. His wife passed away in 1964. Through many years of hard labours, he and his family always found God sufficient.

Mr. Toews was survived by his five children: one son, Jacob, who has since passed away; and four daughters, Agatha, Margaret and Mary in Winnipeg, and Mrs. Elizabeth Klassen, living in the U.S.
