ISAAC N. TOEWS

Isaac N. Toews, the son of Rev. Isaac and Mrs. Anne (nee Neufeld) Toews, was born September 6, 1923 in Orenburg, Russia. In 1926 the family moved to Canada, settling on a farm at Flowing Well, Sask. He accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour at an early age. After moving to Yarrow, B.C., in 1941 the family became one of the first pioneers to buy a small farm and settle at Arnold, B.C. In 1943 Isaac was baptized and joined the Arnold Mennonite Brethren Church where he remained a faithful member for the rest of his life.

He attended Yarrow Bible School for two years. He enjoyed singing and was a faithful choir member for many years; he also served in Sunday school and the church library.

By trade he was an electrician. Through his occupation he made many friends and was known for his faithful and conscientious work. In 1958 he moved to Clearbrook, B.C.

For health reasons he had to discontinue his profession about three years ago. In December, 1975 a kidney operation indicated the presence of cancer. For a brief period it seemed that he might recover, but his condition suddenly deteriorated and the Lord called him home on February 24.

Mr. Toews was predeceased by his parents, and by two brothers in infancy. He is survived by his stepmother; two brothers, Jacob and Herman of B.C.; five sisters, Anna (Mrs. John) Goerzen, Tina (Mrs. George) Warkentin, Helen (Mrs. Jacob) Dyck, and Louise (Mrs. John) Enns, and Mary, all of B.C.; many nephews, nieces and friends.
