MRS. G. B. TOEWS

Helena (nee Hiebert) Toews was born on May 19, 1878, on a farm near Greenfield, Man. She departed this life Sept. 17 in the Salem Hospital, Hillsboro, Kan., at the age of 82 ears, three months, and 28 days.

Her youth was lived in the Greenfield village, where she attended school. At the age of 16 years, she came with her parents to the Ebenfeld community near Hillsboro, Kan.

On Dec. 22, 1898, she was joined in marriage to Gerhardt B. Toews, a union which lasted for more than 61 years. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in December, 1958.

To this union were born 10 children, of which eight are living. Surviving are Mrs. Anna Toews, Mrs. Rudolph Thye, Mrs. George Wiens, Albert and David Toews, all of Hillsboro, Kan.; Mrs. Harvey Funk of Shafter, Calif., Mrs. Arthur Pauls of McPherson, Kan., Geovennie [sic Geovani] and Edna Toews of Inman, Kan.

At the age of 43 years, she was accepted by Baptism into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, of which she was a member at the time of her death. Her passing was due to an accidental fall injuring her hip. She passed away after five weeks in the Hillsboro Salem hospital.

Her passing leaves her husband, Gerhardt B. Toews, eight children, 18 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren, one brother, and a host of relatives and friends. — The Family.
