CORNELIUS M. TOEWS

Cornelius M. Toews was born June 5, 1868, and departed this life August 25, 1946, at 6:30 P.M. He was born in Russia and came to the United States July 4, 1877.

He was converted at an early age and baptized and received into the Mennonite church in 1890. He endured all the hardships of an early settler and pioneer in this country. His early boyhood was spent in and around Henderson, Nebraska.

While he was still a young man the family moved to Genoa, Colorado. Here the family spent a number of years in ranching. Later they moved to Kirk, Colo. He spent most of his life on a farm here.

After the passing of his mother he made his home with his sister Anna Mackelburger. He moved to Englewood, Colorado, in September, 1940 together with his brother, Peter, and sister, Anna Mackelburger. He was a constant reader of the Bible and a sincere Christian and lived the simple life of a Christian. He lived to be 78 years old.

In his passing he leaves to mourn his twin brother, Peter of Englewood, another brother, John of Kirk, Colorado; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Jansen [sic Janzen], Genoa, Colorado; Mrs. Elizabeth [sic Elisabeth] Fast, Kirk, Colorado; and Mrs. Anna Mackelburger of Englewood, Colorado, where he made his home for the past six years.

One brother, George, and one sister, Lena Jansan [sic Janzen], and his parents preceded him into the great beyond, where there are no tears or suffering or strife. he also leaves a large number of nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
