Pioneer Missionary To Lengua Indians Dies in Paraguay

Bernard W. Toews of Menno Colony, Paraguay, pioneer missionary to the Lengua Indians, died there on Jan. 18 according to word received by the General Conference Commission on Overseas Mission in Newton and by Robert Unruh, former agricultural worker in Paraguay.

He was found dead in his car, and death was believed due to a heart attack. He was in his 60s.

Mr. Toews was one of the original settlers of the Menno Colony in 1926 and had been a worker among the Lenguas for over 40 years. It is believed he was one of the first, if not the first, missionary to the Indians from Menno Colony.

Mr. Toews was married and the father of three sons and one daughter. His wife and family survive.
