JACOBINA THIESZEN

Jacobina Tiahrt Tieszen, daughter of Jacob and Katharina Schmidt Tiahrt, was born Dec. 26, 1889, in Turner County near Dolton, S.D., and died May 3, 1985, at the Diamond Care Center in Bridgewater, S.D., at the age of 95.

She was baptized on May 21, 1905, in the Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, Freeman, S.D., and also attended Bethesda Mennonite Church, Marion, S.D., for a time.

She attended rural schools in Turner County and graduated from Freeman Academy in 1907. She taught school and worked in the bank in Dolton before her marriage to A. V. Tieszen on Aug. 29, 1918.

In 1951 they retired to Freeman, where they resided in the Salem Home from 1971 to 1976. Her husband preceded her in death in 1976.

She is survived by five children and their spouses, Margaret Ruth and Carl H. Epp of Henderson, Neb., Norma and Hugo B. Reimer of North Newton, Kan., Paul and Maria Tieszen of Spearfish, S.D., Dorothy Ann and Clifton P. Gunnels of Mullens, W. Va., and Karl and Bonita Tieszen of Marion, S.D.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Tiahrt of Kissimmee. Fla., and Leon Tiahrt of Hemet, Calif. She was also preceded in death by one grandchild.
