ABRAHAM V. TIESZEN

A. V. Tieszen, son of Derk P. and Helena Deckert Tieszen, was born on Aug. 10, 1885, at Marion, Turner County, South Dakota, and died on Nov. 5, 1976, at the Freeman, S. D. Nursing Home at the age of 91.

He was baptized on June 1, 1903, in the Bethesda Mennonite Church, Marion, and later became a member of the Salem Zion Mennonite Church, Freeman.

On Aug. 29, 1918, he was married to Jacobina Tiahrt, who survives him along with five children and spouses, Margaret Ruth and husband Carl H. Epp of Henderson, Neb., Norma and husband Hugo B. Reimer of Wichita, Kan., Paul and wife Maria of Spearfish, S. D., Dorothy Ann and husband Clifton P. Gunnels of Larned, Kan. and Karl and wife Bonita of Marion; 14 grandchildren (one preceded him in death); and four great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Anna Becker of Marion, Mrs. Aganetha (Louis) Linscheid, and Mrs. Amalia (John D.) Unruh, both of Freeman, and one brother, Benjamin V., Freeman. four sisters and four brothers preceded him in death.

Following a limited elementary education he attended Freeman College, Bethel College, and State College at Brookings, S. D., completing A.B. and B.S. degrees. He taught school for 17 years in Nebraska and South Dakota, the last nine of which he was principal and superintendent of Freeman High School. He was also a farmer, devoting full time to his occupation following his teaching career. He and mother retired to their home in Freeman in 1951.

He was active in and held offices in church and community organizations.

His death fulfilled his desire to join his Heavenly Father.
