NADINE L. THOMAS

Nadine L. Thomas died Nov. 26, 1988, in Lancaster, Pa., of complications from viral pneumonia. She was 36.

She was born in Lancaster, the daughter of Leon M. and Jean Miller Thomas. She was engaged to David Shiley; they had planned a June 1989 wedding.

She was a 1970 graduate of Lancaster-Strasburg High School. she attended Hesston (Kan.) College and graduated from Goshen (Ind.) College with majors in English and communications. she began her journalism career in 1975 as a feature writer for the “The Goshen (Ind.) News,” then as a reporter for “Elkhart (Ind.) Truth.”

She joined the (Lancaster, Pa.) “Intelligencer Journal” staff in 1979 as a feature writer for the Lifestyle section. She was a general assignment reporter for the newspaper at the time of her death. she won more than a dozen awards for her writing from various statewide communications organizations.

She was a member of the Mennonite church. She also was a member of the executive committee and served as secretary on the board directors of the Lancaster Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was also active in the Easter Seal Society of Lancaster.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by three brothers, Warren A. of Lancaster, Everett J. of Goshen, Ind., and Lowell E. of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Greta J. (Mrs. Donald) Edgell of Ephrata and Gretchen J. of Lancaster, and her maternal grandfather, Thomas H. Miller of Kalona, Iowa.
