Eastern Dist. Pastor Called By Death

REV. FREEMAN H. SWARTZ SERVED SCHWENKSVILLE CHURCH FOR 35 YEARS

Schwenksville, Pa. — A large number of church members and friends from throughout the Eastern District Conference area attended funeral services for Rev. Freeman H. Swartz, held Oct. 15 at the Eden Mennonite Church here. He served as pastor of the church for more than 35 years.

Death came unexpectedly from a heart attack Oct. 10 at the Mennonite Home for Aged, Frederick, where Rev. Swartz had gone for a rest after a two week stay in the Montgomery Hospital, Norristown. He was 59.

A native of Pipersville, he was ordained to the ministry at the Eden church in October 1921 and had served here ever since. He was a graduate of Ursinus College and had done considerable graduate work in theology at Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Active in Conference

Rev. Swartz was active throughout the years in the Eastern District Conference, of which he had been president and secretary. He served on the boards of Bluffton College and the Home at Frederick.

In 1944 he was married to Nora Moyer, and she died on Sept. 20 of last year. Survivors include one brother, Hiram H. of Pipersville, one sister, Mrs. Clara Hower of Bangor, nephews and nieces.

Taking part in the funeral services were Rev. Ellis Graber, Rev. A. S. Rosenberger, Rev. Howard Landes and Rev. Claude Boyer. Twelve pastors of the Eastern District led by Rev. Wilmer Denlinger sang “O Have You Not Heard of That Beautiful Stream,” a favorite hymn.
