BERTHA SANNER STUCKY

Bertha (Sanner) Stucky was born Feb. 4, 1895, at Pretty Prairie, Kans. where she spent the greater part of her childhood. On March 27, 1910, she was baptized upon her confession of faith by Rev. J. J. Flickinger in the Mennonite church of Pretty Prairie, Kans.

In September 1911 she came with her parents, Peter and Karlina Sanner, to Monroe, Wash., where they made their home. They were one of the early pioneer families.

On Sept 19, 1912, she was united in holy wedlock to Jacob D. Stucky by Rev. William Graf of Startup, Wash. To this union was born a daughter, Edna, now Mrs. Ralph Flickner. Mr. and Mrs. Stucky, on the 19th of this month, would have commemorated 39 years of happy union.

She passed away Tuesday evening, Sept. 5, 1950 at her home, reaching the age of 55 years, seven months and one day.

She leaves to mourn her early death her husband, one daughter and two grandchildren of Monroe, and a host of relatives and friends. Her death was a great shock to the community since the Stuckys had visited relatives and friends on Monday. Tuesday morning she had gone to town to see her daughter, coming home in the afternoon. In the evening she had gone to the barn to milk when the Lord gave His call for her to come to her Heavenly home.

Rev. Abraham Unruh, pastor of the Monroe Country Mennonite church, and Rev. Walter Goring conducted the service. Rev. Unruh spoke on John 14, taking as his text John 14:9. Mrs. Abraham Unruh and Mrs. Walter Gering sang two songs, "Farther Along" and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus.” Burial was in the Monroe cemetery.
