Irene Ellen Stovall

PEABODY—Irene Ellen Stovall, 101, died Thursday (Aug. 29, 1996) at the Peabody Community Living Center.

She was born Feb. 4, 1895, in Paris, Ill., to Mary and Drury Burton Walker. She married Stanley A. J. Stovall in 1923 in Junction City. He died Feb. 4, 1971.

She was raised in Manhattan and became a school teacher and taught in Leavenworth, Salina and Peabody. She and her husband owned the Stovall Department Store in Peabody from 1933 to 1965.

Survivors include two sons, Stanley of Owasso, Okla., and Michael of Andover; three sisters, Ruth Swart and Catherine Venard, of Manhattan and Mildred Kelly of Virginia; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and Arthur and one sister, Ida Summers.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p. m. Saturday at Baker Funeral Home in Peabody. Burial will be in the Prairie Lawn Cemetery in Peabody.

Memorials may be sent to the Peabody Community Living Center in care of the funeral home.
