AMISH GIRL STRUCK BY CAR DURING TRIP BY LANCASTER COUNTY GROUP

Bareville, Pa. — Around 800 persons attended funeral services at the John L. Stoltzfus farm one mile south of here on August3 21 for Rachel Stoltzfus, 18-year-old daughter of the Stoltzfus's, whose death on August 18 resulted from injuries sustained when struck by an auto the previous day. Services were held in the large bank barn at the farm.

The tragedy occurred at New Market, Md., in the course of a trip by 14 Amish young people to visit an Amish settlement in Maryland. the group, traveling by bus, had stopped in the Maryland town for ice cream and soft drinks and Rachel was one of a party of three who were the last to cross the street. She and Barbara Stoltzfus were stuck by a car driven by two young men. Rachel suffered a number of broken bones, head injuries and a punctured chest. She died 24 hours later in a Leonardtown, Md., hospital.

En Route To Maryland

The party of young people had been in Washington, D. C., on Saturday and at the time of the accident were en route to St. Marys county, Md., to visit relatives. The Maryland colony was founded about seven years ago by a group from Lancaster county. Rachel Stoltzfus and a sister and brother had planned to visit their uncle, John L. Stoltzfus, whose father, the late Stephen Stoltzfus, founded the settlement in Maryland.

The deceased is survived by her parents; five sisters and five brothers; and her grandparents, Bishop Samuel M. Stoltzfus of Morgantown and Lizzie Stoltzfus of Mascot.
