Mrs. Verena Steiner

Funeral services were held this afternoon for Grandma Verena Steiner, who died Monday afternoon, Oct 11, at 2:30 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Neuhauser, on West Main street, Berne, Ind.

She was one of the oldest citizens of this community having attained the age of 91 years and 21 days. Death was due to senility and paralysis. For the last four days previous to her death she had been unconscious.

Mrs. Verena Steiner (nee Stauffer) was born in Wayne county, Ohio, on September 20, 1835. She was married to Peter C. Steiner in 1853. Her husband preceded her, dying 24 years ago. Seven children also preceded, they being Jacob, Daniel, Mrs. John Neuhauser, Emma, Elizabeth and Mrs. Moses Augsburger. Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren also preceded.

Those children surviving are: Amos and John, both of Linn Grove, David, of Sterling, Ill., and Mrs. Peter Biberstine and Mrs. Jacob Neuhauser of this place. Twenty-six grandchildren and 46 greatgrandchildren also survive her.

The funeral services were held at the Jacob Neuhauser home at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon, and at 2:00 o'clock at the Mennonite church. Rev. Emanuel Becker conducted the services in the English language and Rev. P. R. Schroeder, pastor of the Mennonite Church, in the German language.

Burial was made at the Linn Grove cemetery. — Adams Co. Witness.
