Retired Bishop Dies At Rittman, Ohio

Rittman, Ohio. — Funeral services for Bishop Albert J. Steiner, 88, long-time bishop of Ohio and Eastern Conference churches in Mahoning and Cohumbiana [sic Columbiana] counties were conducted at the Mennonite Home for Aged here and at the North Lima Mennonite Church. He died Aug. 20 at the Home for Aged, where he had been a resident for some time.

A native of Beaverdam, Ohio, Bishop Steiner attended the Elkhart Institute and Ohio Northern University and was ordained to the ministry as a young man.

He served for some years as moderator of the Ohio Mennonite Conference as well as moderator of several sessions of the Ohio Mennonite and Eastern Joint Conference, and served on the Mennonite Board of Education for many years.

Survivors include his widow, Mary; three sons, Bishop David C. of North Lima, James A. of Wadsworth, O., and Bishop John M. of Goshen, Ind., and their families; and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Geiger of North Newton, Kan.
