Sad Accident

— Edward Spangler, 11 years old, only child of Rev. and Mrs. E. S. Spangler of 401 East Fourth, died at 9:45 this morning, an hour and a half after being run over by a stock truck, driven by G. H. Meade of near Halstead.

The accident occurred at the Main and Broadway intersection. According to Mr. Meade, the lights went against him just as he drew up to the intersection, but his brakes failed him. Edward was riding his bicycle and had stopped for the light signal, dashing across as soon as the flash permitted him to go. The truck passed over the child's chest, according to witnesses interviewed.

Edward, in company with Dean Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Brown was enroute to answer an advertisement for boys that appeared in the Kansan on Tuesday evening. He and his friend had been given appointments and they were eager to meet it on time. Mr. Meade was enroute for Wichita with a truck load of stock. Mr. Meade commandeered the car belonging to H. K. March, and the two rushed the injured boy to the Axtell Christian hospital.

The child was unconscious when taken to the hospital, but revived and recognized his parents.

The funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Evangelical church, the Rev. C. F. Hartmann officiating.
