MRS. MARY EDNA SOMMER

Mrs. Mary Edna Sommer, for many years a resident of Tremont, Ill., died at the home of her son, Victor Sommer, on Rt. 1, Pekin, Ill. at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the age of 81 years, three months and 22 days.

Mrs. Sommer was born Oct. 13,1876, in Elkhart County, Ind., the daughter of Noah Y. and Susan Miller. She married Wilbert C. Sommer of Pekin on Dec. 22, 1903. He preceded her in death Oct. 16, 1957.

Surviving are four sons, Victor Sommer of Pekin, Willis Sommer of Gridley, Orville Sommer of Gibson City, and Clarence of Hopedale; one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Florence) Gibbs of Gridley; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters, Mrs. Lovina Yoder and Mrs. Fannie Schrock, both of Middlebury, ind., and Mrs. E. J. Hieser, Rt. 1, Pekin; and three brothers, Amasa Miller of Wayland, Iowa, Oliver Miller of Barrington, Ill., and Oscar Miller of Ithaca, Mich.

Two brothers preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sommer was a charter member of the Bethel Mennonite Church of Pekin, Ill., a member of the Dorcas Society, and a charter member of the Tazewell County Home Bureau, Elm Grove Township. She had lived in Tremont for the past 63 years.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Feb. 7, at 1:30 p.m. in the Bethel Mennonite Church, located on Highway No. 9 east of Pekin. The pastor, Rev. S. T. Moyer, assisted by the Rev. R. L. Hartzler of Bloomington, Ill., officiated. Burial was made in the Lakeside Cemetery. The church house was crowded in tribute to the memory of one who had come during the early days to share life and to serve her Lord and Saviour in a pioneer community.
