Metamora, Ill. — George I. Sommer, oldest resident of this community, died July 12 at his home. He was 95.
The funeral services were held Friday morning, July 15, at the Metamora Mennonite church with Rev. Roy Bucher and Rev. Gilbert Johnstone officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Point cemetery.
Born in Metamora township on March 5, 1865, he was the son of John and Anna Smith Sommer. On June 27, 1895 he married Anna M. Schertz, who died Sept. 3, 1943.
Surviving are three sons, Albert of Washington, Ill., David of Wooster, Ohio, and Joseph of Peoria; two daughters, Mary Ann and Emma, both of Metamora; a sister, Mrs. Bena Darr of Eureka; a brother, J. D. of Metamora; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Five brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
