CHRISTIAN P. SOMMER

Christian P. Sommer, son of Peter C. and Anna Berger Sommer, was born on a farm near Kidron, Ohio where he spent his entire life and passed away on Jan. 3, 1952, age 65 years, nine months and 22 days.

On Jan. 1 he was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage while going after a bucket of water and remained unconscious until he passed away.

On March 29, 1907, he was baptized and received into the Mennonite church, remaining a faithful member of the Kidron church. On Sept. 14, 1915, he was married to Ida, daughter of John J. and Sarah Steiner Lehman, by Rev. Jacob Nussbaum. Although a retired farmer, he was still active and suffered few days of sickness.

He leaves his sorrowing companion: three sons, Clarence and Ira of Kidron and Norman of Apple Creek; one daughter, Dorothy, wife of Raymond Hofstetter; 10 grandchildren; two sisters, Fanny and Emma of Orrville; three brothers, Daniel of Kidron, David of Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Joel of Orrville. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

The funeral was held at the Kidron church on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 6, when a large concourse of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect. The services were in charge of Reuben Hofstetter and Allen Bixler, and burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, Victor Amstutz, Orren Zuercher, Clyde Sommer, L. E. Sommer, Orren Gerber and Richard Lehman.
