JONAS SOLDNER

Jonas Soldner was born Nov. 21, 1861, in Berne, Ind. to John and Mary Stauffer Soldner. He spent his early years on a farm in Indiana. He taught school there for a few years and then came to California. Here he was a school teacher for nearly 45 years.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith on Nov. 18, 1882, and received into the membership of the First Mennonite church, Berne, Ind. In 1935 he transferred his membership to the First Mennonite church, Reedley, Calif. When the Mennonite Community church was organized in Fresno, on Nov. 21, 1954, he became one of the charter members.

On Aug. 13, 1935, he was married to Sara Sprunger. She passed away on Jan. 2, 1953.

He lived on a small ranch near Fresno until about year ago, when it became necessary for him to receive care elsewhere. Since then he had lived at Sister’s Rest Home in Calwa. He was called to his Eternal Home on Saturday afternoon, May 21, having reached the age of 93 years and six months.

All the members of his immediate family preceded him in death. A niece, Mrs. George Husted of Corcoran, Calif., and a grand nephew, Harold Stauffer of Fresno, are among the relatives living in this vicinity. He also had many friends in the Fresno and Reedley communities.

Funeral services were held in the Lisle Funeral Home Chapel on May 24, with Rev. Aaron Epp of Reedley officiating, assisted by Rev. Peter J. Ediger of Fresno. Interment was in the Belmont Memorial Park, Fresno.
