ACCIDENT IN CHICAGO SUBURB CLAIMS LIFE OF DAVID SMUCKER

Pandora, Ohio. — Funeral services for David Smucker, 29, son of Rev. and Mrs. J. N. Smucker of Goshen, Ind., who lost his life in a traffic accident near Chicago June 7, were held at the First Mennonite church of Bluffton on Friday, June 10. Rev. Alvin J. Beachy, the pastor officiated.

Mr. Smucker and a companion, 18-year-old David Glaze, were en route home after delivering some Dalmation puppies in Chicago when their car crashed into a truck at 162nd and State streets. Smucker was dead on arrival at the hospital, and the Glaze youth was seriously injured.

Mr. Smucker, who operated a small farm near Bluffton, served in C.P.S. during World War II and was a graduate of Bluffton College. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, the former Barbara Jean Triplett, and two children, Susan 3 and Allen, one month; two brothers, Leonard and Joseph, and one sister, Mary Ann. Rev. and Mrs. Smucker recently moved from Chicago to Goshen. Rev. Smucker is editor of “The Mennonite,” official General Conference paper.
