Long-Time Farmer And Cattleman Dies

Goshen, Ind. — Allen Smoker, 84, well-known farmer and beef cattle raiser here, died at the Goshen Hospital on March 9 at the age of 84.

Funeral services were arranged for March 13 at the Yoder-Culp funeral home, with Rev. Donald Emmert and Rev. Robert Hartzler officiating.

Mr. Smoker was born on the Elkhart prairie Feb. 6, 1877, and spent most of his life on his farm southeast of Goshen. He was a charter member of the Silver Street Mennonite Church, and was also active in farm organizations, helping to organize the Elkhart County 4-H Beef Calf Club a number of years ago.

Surviving are three daughters, five sons, 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
