MRS. SUSANNA SMITH

Mrs. Susanna Smith, daughter of Christian and Helena Rudiger Schultz, was born on the family farm near Pawnee Rock, Kan. on June 17, 1885, and went to rest on Dec. 14, 1971 at the age of 86 years, five months and 27 days.

Upon confession of faith in her Redeemer, Jesus Christ, mother was baptized on June 3, 1900 by Pastor Peter H. Dirks and became a member of the Bergthal Mennonite Church. She was a faithful member of her church and an active member of the Mission Workers Society as long as her health permitted.

On June 1, 1904, she was united in marriage to Gerhard P. Smith. They made their home on a farm and were permitted to share life's joys and sorrows for nearly 42 years. Mother's remaining years were spent in Larned, Kan. To this union were born four sons: Lamont Lee, Clarence Oliver, Roy Ramond [sic Raymond], and Lester James (deceased), and two daughters, Gladys Alice and Ethel Irene.

She was a devoted wife and an affectionate mother, always serving the Lord in a quiet way. With her gentle smile she showed us love in many ways and was always there with a helping hand when needed. Not only do we have memories, but the great love she created.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are Lamont and wife Edith, Gladys Seibert, Oliver and wife Fern, all of Pawnee Roth, Roy and wife Lenora, Ethel and her husband Edward Polzin, all of Larned; 13 grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Peter Schultz; three sisters, Mrs. Gustave (Tina) Nichols, Mrs. Lena Unruh and Mrs. Martha Koehn; nephews, nieces and many other relatives and friends. Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.

We take comfort in the assurance that mother has gone to be with her Lord and we look forward to meeting her in His presence. — The Family.
