MRS. CLARENCE SMITH

Mrs. Clarence Smith (nee Nellie Mae Unruh) was born Oct. 27, 1899 near Dundee, Kansas, the eldest child of Peter G. and Agnetha Unruh. She grew to womanhood in that community.

Mother was baptized upon her confession of faith May 30, 1909 by Peter H. Dirks of the Bergthal Mennonite church, where she was a faithful and active lifelong member.

On June 6, 1912 she was united in marriage with Clarence Smith. They were happily married for almost 48 years. To this union were born four sons and three daughters. The first seven years of marriage were spent near Pawnee Rock, Kansas, and the next 25 years on a farm eight miles north of Larned, Kansas. In 1945 they moved to their present home at 715 Carroll St. in Larned.

She was a devoted wife and mother, thinking unselfishly of the needs and wishes of her husband, children, and grandchildren before her own. Mother's kindness, generosity and loving spirit were felt by all she came in contact with. Her love of flowers was known to all. She shared flowers, letters, and cards with many people known and unknown to her.

She had been in poor health for several months and spent the last three weeks in the hospital where she passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, at the age of 70 years, two months and 16 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband, Clarence; four sons, Vernon and Homer of Toccoa, Georgia, Allen and Martin of Larned; three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Buller (Cleo) of Larned, Mrs. Max Vogt (Velda) of Newton, and Eloise of Denver; three brothers, Frank, Allen and Roy Unruh; two sisters, Lena Dirks, and Mrs. Frank Schultz; four daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, and 20 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and two grandchildren. — The Family.
