JOSEPH E. SLATTER

Joseph E. Slatter, son of Benjamin and Magdalena (Stutzman) Slatter, was born at Milford, Nebr. on Oct. 15, 1884. He died Sept. 15, 1963 at his home at Filer, Idaho, after a short illness caused by a heart condition aged 78 years and 11 months.

He was married to Edna Kaufman at Roseland, Nebr. in 1910. They moved to Filer, Idaho in 1913 where he resided since, with the exception of a few years.

He became a charter member of the Filer Mennonite Church when it was organized in 1914. He was ordained as deacon in 1939 and served in this capacity for 22 years.

Surviving him are his widow and two sons and four daughters, Carl of El Cazon, Calif., Clifford of Filer, Idaho, Letha (Mrs. Jerry Gingerich) of Bruneau, Idaho, Florence (Mrs. Dan Shank) of Filer, Beulah (Mrs. Joe Miller) of Rupert, Idaho, and Iola (Mrs. Gilbert Lind) of Anton, Ohio; 28 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; five brothers, Dan and Pete of Twin Falls, Idaho, Elmer of Chiao, Calif., Ben of Martinez, Calif. and John of Bigfork, Mont.; and one sister, Clare Gatch of Toledo, Ohio. His parents and three brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted at the Filer Mennonite Church on Sept. 19, with Pastor Royden Schweitzer, assisted by Eldon Stutzman and S. Henderich officiating.
