BARBARA SLAGELL

Barbara Swartzendruber Slagell, La Junta, Colo., died in her home early Friday morning, Oct. 30, 1964. She was born in Wellman, Iowa, July 2, 1874. She reached the age of 90 years. She was next to the youngest in a family of 15 children and she outlived all the others.

She became a Christian in her youth. Throughout her life she enjoyed serving her Lord as a faithful worker in her home, her church and community. The past 22 years she was at home in La Junta and was a faithful member of the La Junta Mennonite Church.

She was united in marriage with Christian Slagell, Feb. 28, 1964, at Hartford, Kan. They moved to Harper, Kan. in December, 1909. While living there she was a member of the Crystal Springs Mennonite Church. Her husband died July 17, 1940. She moved to La Junta, Colo. in 1942 to make her home with her daughters.

Her family consists of the following: One son, Howard of Harper, four daughters, Mrs. Tildon (Ruth) Neville, Ada and Irene Slagell, all of La Junta, and Mrs. Forrest (Bernice) Miller, Lyons, Kan.; one daughter-in-law, two sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A service was held in a La Junta memorial chapel on Sunday, Nov. 1, in charge of Menno M. Troyer. On Monday, Nov. 2, a funeral service was held in the Crystal Springs Church near Harper, Kan. Interment was made in the church cemetery beside the grave of her late husband. The service was in charge of Wesley Jantz and Earl Buckwalter.
