LIZZIE SLABACH

Lizzie Slabach, the daughter of Jacob and Magdalene Kauffman, was born in Elkhart County, Ind. on Sept. 10, 1872. When she was 15 years old her parents moved to Garden City, Mo.

On Dec. 22, 1895, she was married to Uriah Slabach of Conway, Kansas. They lived in McPherson County, Kansas near the West Liberty Mennonite church till her husband passed away March 11, 1953.

Besides their six children she leaves 30 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Adam Kauffman of Ellinwood; and one sister, Ella Kauffman, who stayed with her the last ten years and tenderly cared for her.

Early in life she united with the Mennonite church and remained faithful till death. She was always busy with her home and family, besides the many duties of a farm wife. Though she was in failing health for a couple of years, she was seriously ill for only ten days before her death. She passed away at the McPherson hospital on Thursday morning, August 29, 1957, at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 19 days.

The following children survive: four daughters, Mrs. Alma Lingle, Mrs. Grace Perkins and Mrs. Ina McDonald of McPherson and Mrs. Eva Schletzbaum of Conway, Kansas; two sons, Dewey and Leo Slabach of Windom, Kansas.

Funeral services were held Sept. 1 at the West Liberty church, M. M. Troyer and J. G. Hartzler officiating.
