KATIE L. SIEMENS

Katie L. Siemens was born to Henry G. and Katherine Loewen Regier on Oct. 12, 1890, in the village of Ruderweide, Russia. She died at Inman, Kan., on July 23, 1982, at the age of 91.

The family immigrated to the Buhler, Kan., area when she was eight years old. They purchased land along the Little Arkansas River. She attended IXL School, but never graduated because of the hard work of being a pioneer family.

Upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ she was baptized by Elder A. M. Martins on Aug. 12, 1906 and became a member of the Hebron Mennonite Church. Later her membership was transferred to the Buhler Mennonite Church where she remained a faithful member until her death.

On March 16, 1912 she married Abraham R. Siemens. They farmed southeast of Buhler, rasing watermelon, grain and livestock. Her special interest was her vegetable garden. For relaxation she had her flower garden.

They moved to Buhler in 1959, where they enjoyed 16 years of retirement until 1975 when they moved to Pleasant View Home in Inman.

She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Anna Franz of the Sunshine Home, Buhler; two sons, Marvin and Marieanna Siemens of Buhler and Edward and Alma Siemens of Hesston; one daughter, Welma and Marion Stucky of Galva, a daughter-in-law, Elda Siemens Jantz and Kervin Jantz of Newton; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband; one son, Wilbur; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; two sisters; and five brothers.

Funeral services were held on July 27 at the Buhler Mennonite Church with Abe Krause and Edward Wiebe officiating. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery.
