Robert Donald Shields of Manitou, Man. passed away Oct. 13. He was born Aug. 16, 1920 to James and Myrtle Shields in the Archibald District of Manitoba. He married Doris Kathleen Deamel Dec. 15, 1942. They lived in Hagersville, Ont., where he was stationed with the Air Force. After his discharge, they returned to the Archibald District, moving to La Riviere, Man. in 1948 and to Manitou in 1998. He enjoyed spending time with his children in coaching baseball and working in 4-H clubs. In the community, he was involved with Pool Elevators, the La Riviere credit union, the School Board, the La Riviere Centennial Committee and church. His sense of humour, genuine interest, caring attitude and level head were appreciated by many. In 1975 he accepted Christ, influenced by his wife's Christian example and prayers. In 1978 he was baptized and joined a Bible teaching church. In 1994 he joined Manitou MB Church. He served with enthusiasm, and had a deep gratitude for what God had done in his life. Predeceased by 2 brothers, a sister and an infant daughter, he is mourned by Doris; children Sandra Reimer, Wendy Johnson and Dale; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. The funeral was Oct. 16 in Manitou MB Church.
