SHEPHERD, RUTH BAEHR, 85, of Louisville, died Wednesday at Treyton Oak Towers. She was a native of St. Louis, MO, and grew up in North Newton, KS. She taught grade school in Kansas, New Jersey and California and was principal at Stanford Convalescent School in Palo Alto, CA. She was an avid volunteer for the Fitchburg, MA, Art Museum, the League of Women Voters and the First Parish Unitarian Church in Fitchburg. She was a lover of the arts and, for the past 72 years, gallantly battled diabetes. She was the wife of the late Professor Louis P. Shepherd. She is survived by a daughter, Rae Shepherd-Shlechter; a son-in-law, Ted Shlechter; and two brothers, Rufus and Herbert Baehr. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2005, at Treyton Oak Towers. Burial will take place in Fitchburg at a later date. Pearson's is in charge of local arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Kentucky Educational Television, the Public Radio Partnership or to the American Diabetes Association. Published in The Courier-Journal on Dec. 31, 2004
