MRS. FANNIE SHANK

Mrs. Fannie Frances Shank, 87, widow of Jacob L. Shank, and a well known and beloved resident of West Rockingham, Virginia, died at 4:15 yesterday afternoon at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Campbell, in the Mole Hill Community.

Mrs. Shank had not been well for the past five wears and had been bedfast since November 1953. Her condition became critical last week and little hope had been held for her recovery in recent days.

Mrs. Shank was born Aug. 1, 1867, the daughter of the late Daniel J. Good and Marie HeatWole [sic Heatwole] Good. She was born in the Rushville section, but moved with her parents to Dale Enterprise, Virginia as a child where she made her home until , sheher marriage.

On Dec. 20, 1891, she married Jacob L. Shank, and following their marriage they moved to the Mole Hill community where she had since resided. Mr. Shank, a prominent Rockingham County farmer and fruit grower, preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1926.

Mrs. Shank possessed an alert mind and was well read, and in spite of her advanced years she never lost interest in the affairs of her community and church. She loved young people and was always ready to help those who needed her assistance. She was a devoted mother and good neighbor and friend who will be missed by many.

She is survived by seven children, Ward D. Shank and Welden [sic Weldon] M. Shank, both of Sterling, Ill.; Dan G. Shank of Harrisonburg Route 1; Wilmer P. Shank of Harrisonburg Route 4; Mrs. Marion (Annie) Weaver of Harrisonburg; Mrs. Jacob (Mary) Suter of Park View; and Mrs. Herman (Grace) Campbell of Dayton Route 2.

She also leaves 25 grandchildren and 57 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lydia Cline of Nampa, Idaho, and Mrs. George Gowl of Harrisonburg, Pa.; and one brother, Royd Good of Circleville, Ohio. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A son died in infancy and a son, Jacob L. Shank, jr., preceded her in death on July 12, 1936. Three sisters, Mrs. Annie Harlin, Mrs. Verdie Suter and Mrs. Sarah Showalter, and a brother, Dr. Dewitt Good preceded her in death.
