MRS. CLARA MAE SHANK

Clara Mae Shank, daughter of John L. and Maggie Horn Brubaker, was born May 21, 1869, in Marion County, Iowa and died Sept. 21, 1958, at the ripe old age of 89 years and four months.

As a small child she moved with her parents to Shelby County, Mo. where she spent her earlier years and acquired her education. In 1895 most of the family moved to Birch Tree in Shannon County, Mo. where Clara taught the first term of school in a new district.

At the age of 16 she was converted under the ministry of I. S. Coffman and was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church until her death. She taught school for 36 years in Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, New Mexico, and Kansas.

On March 8,1925, she was married to J. R. Shank at Birch Tree, Mo. with whom she served the people in the Osage region as long as she was able. Her husband died April 26, 1958.

Surviving her are three brothers and four sisters; Sam Brubaker and Martha (Mrs. F. L. Lindal) of Wichita, Kansas; Mina, widow of the late Dr. C. D. Esch of La Junta, Colo.; Tom Brubaker and Sadie (Mrs. Stanley Carr) of Mt. View, Mo.; Mrs. Hannah Bissey of Leonard, Mo.; and J. P. Brubaker of 13 E. McNair, Versailles, at whose home she died. tives [sic] and friends remain to remember her many loving deeds.

Funeral services were held at the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church on Sept. 23 with Leroy Gingerich and Daniel Kauffman of Leonard, Mo. officiating. Interment was made in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

View, Mo., Albert and Esther Detweiler of Birch Tree, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Fenton, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Fenton, Mrs. Elmer Clark and Nellie and Mayhalla Hathaway, all of Philadelphia, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hathaway of Palmyra, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Kauffman and Mrs. Noah Detweiler of Leonard, Mo., Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Yoder, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Rensberger and Mrs. Sam Byrum, all of Fristoe, Mo., Dr. and Mrs. Bereman of Climax Springs, Mo., Walter Maronette and Mrs. L. A. Weaver of Kansas City, Kan.
